When I hear a good song, I have a bad habit of replaying over and over until I get sick of it for a while. However, with these 5 songs, I can listen to them as much as I want. A good song (for me) has to have a good beat, lyrics and overall aesthetic to it. Here's my top 5 songs with the full package.
5. Bohemian Rhapsody/Queen/Night at the Opera
"Bohemian Rhapsody introduced me to Queen, as well as the Rock music genre. It combines somber melodies with great vocals from Freddy Mercury, and it has an awesome change in tempo about 2/3rds through the song.
4. Latch/Disclosure & Sam Smith/Settle
Disclosure is arguably the most talented duo in music since Hall and Oates (which says how relevant they are). This single off the fantastic album "Settle" is fantastic because it combines a grooving and powerful beat with a powerful single. Not to mention, "Latch" kickstarted Sam Smith's career in the mainstream. "Latch" is an amazing song that introduced me to one of my favorite bands ever.
3. 3005/Childish Gambino/Because the Internet
Donald Glover is a comedian, rapper, producer and actor. That alone makes me respect him as a person, but the fact that he is gifted in all four makes him that much cooler. Gambino tells a tale of loneliness in this deceptively upbeat song, and it worked. I love 3005 because for some reason, it's different everytime I listen to it. Maybe the song changes with how you feel about people at that time. That, is a good sign of a song's impact on the listener.
2. Haunt (Demo)/Bastille/All This Bad Blood
Bastille is my favorite band at the moment because they tell a tale in every single song they have. This shorter song combines amazing instrumentals with haunting and beautiful harmonies. Haunt is an amazing song despite it's length, and I'd show it to anyone who needs an introduction to Bastille.
1. Feel Good Inc./Gorillaz/Demon Days
Why is song my favorite ever? Well, if Gorillaz were still together, they'd be my favorite band. Period. Not only does this song combine rap, dance, and rock into one masterpiece of a song, it also has one of the best instrumentals of any song ever. Like 3005, it's deceptively upbeat. but it talks about despite having everything, you still feel sad. Gorillaz was one of the most talented groups in a while with Damon Alburn (Blur) at vocals, and the animated music videos didn't hurt. All in all, this is Gorillaz's biggest hit, and it's not hard to see. It's a catchy and riveting song, and it's my favorite song of all time.
